Chakra Balancing Meditation by Pam Bhandarkar MacPhee
There are seven major chakras (energy centres) along the spine and when they are balanced and open, we are able to receive… healing, guidance, and inner wisdom.
7: Sahasrara: Crown, Purple: Top of Head
6: Ajna: Third Eye, Indigo: Forehead between the Eyes
5: Vishuddha: Throat, Blue: Throat
4: Anahata: Heart, Green: Heart level at centre
3: Manipura: Solar Plexus, Yellow: Above Navel
2: Svadhisthana: Sacral, Orange: Below Navel
1: Muladhara: Root, Red: Base of Spine
Below is a meditation that I like to use to open up my connection to Oneness. (The term Oneness is used as in Advaita Vedanta, you may wish to use a word that resonates better with you, such as: God, Spirit, Higher Consciousness, True Self, etc.). It can be done in a traditional seated meditation pose, sukhasana, or my favourite way, lying down (corpse pose), savasana. While focusing on deepening and lengthening your breath, spend ten breaths or as much time as you need in each chakra.
Chakra Opening Meditation:
Bring your awareness to the root chakra, placing your hands at the base of the spine, feeling grounded, connected, stable, and safe. Imagine the colour red washing over the entire body in the mind’s eye.
Bring your awareness to the sacral chakra, placing your hands below the navel, enhancing creativity, letting go of control, and strengthening your relationships with others. Imagine the colour orange washing over the entire body.
Bring your awareness to the solar plexus chakra, placing your hands above the navel, lighting your inner fire, boosting your personal power, and strengthening your relationship with yourself. Imagine the colour yellow washing over the entire body.
Bring your awareness to the heart chakra, placing your hands at the heart, feeling compassion and love, for others and especially yourself. Imagine the colour green washing over the entire body.
Bring your awareness to the throat chakra, placing your hands on the neck, enhancing your voice in this world, allowing you to speak your truth, and communicate effectively. Imagine the colour blue washing over the entire body.
Bring your awareness to the third-eye chakra, placing your hands on the forehead, strengthening your intuition, and trusting in divine will. Imagine the colour indigo washing over the entire body.
Bring your awareness to the crown chakra at the top of the head, strengthening your connection to Oneness (God, Spirit, Higher Consciousness, True Self, etc.). Imagine the colour purple washing over the entire body.
Allow loving healing energy to fill all of you. Let that healing energy reach every single cell in your body; clearing away all negativity, embracing all that is good, and love. Feel the warmth of that love spreading all over you and healing the entire body.
Continue your meditation in stillness. If you are feeling ‘too open’ or want more grounding, do this meditation in reverse (from crown to root) to become more grounded, stable, and secure.
Once you have finished your meditation, envision the colour red washing over the entire body. Ground yourself, envision your feet rooted deep into the Earth, and come back into the physical world.
